wk 2-activity-virtual: worlds

my dance team and I created a virtual csulb on minecraft so that we could hangout there as if we were all together
  1. PLACE: This semesters “zoom university” thus based in my own home is similar in that I am doing work predominantly in my bedroom, much like doing most of my work in my dorm last year. The biggest difference is probably my lack of interaction with other students and people that were in my dorm or having all of my friends nearby. Nowadays I rely on facetime to have people to talk to or study with.
  2. PLACE: I feel as though it is easier obviously, to visualize and remember different details of locations in virtual worlds such as minecraft. I think it brings more nostalgia in spending time at those locations vs on Instagram/Facebook where we are only able to see images of one or two places. Communication tools like instagram are easier to directly communicate verbally and allow for more convenient messaging.
  3. PLACE: To compare our virtual pyramid structure with the actual pyramid structure I believe that their overall structure is very structurally similar. Many of the surrounding buildings are not similar just because we haven’t had the time to build them yet but I don’t think the virtual place is quite satisfactory to visiting the actual location.
  4. CONCLUSIONS: Personally, being that I am not very active in terms of visiting this online site, I don’t find a personal satisfaction with visitng it over being there in person.
  5. IDENTITY: I do not think that Instagram or Facebook are MMORPGS because people are not playing a role in a world which they are not actually a part of. Social media platforms like IG and FB are based moreso upon showcasing the events in one’s actual life than living in a virtual reality.
  6. IDENTITY: I think RL in this case stands for real life in which case I think that some people may live as though they are in a role playing scenario rather than real life, depending on how they set themselves up to live.
